Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that he will not summon the Russian ambassador due to a large-scale cyber attack in 2022. It recently became clear that Moscow was behind it.

Szijjarto told opposition MP Ferenc Gelenzer about this, who published a video of the corresponding conversation.

The Russian Ambassador will not be summoned

In the video, Ferenc Gelenczer asked the head of the Hungarian minister “whether he will call the Russian ambassador after the Russians hacked the Foreign Ministry servers.”

No, I have nothing to say to him, was the response.

Note that the day before, Szijjarto responded to a message about a cyber attack stated that “anyone can do it.” The Foreign Minister added that they will make decisions depending on national interests. He said it doesn't matter “even if they hack our computer systems, as long as they try to do it daily or weekly.”

Hungarian politics

  • Hungary blocked 41% of EU decisions on assistance to Ukraine. In particular, the European Peace Fund has been blocked, and negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU have been delayed. In addition, the country is slowing down decisions on Georgia and Armenia.
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently hinted that he does not see a threat from Russia. He does not consider it logical that Russia, “which cannot even defeat Ukraine, would suddenly come and swallow the entire Western world.” At the same time, the politician says that such statements are needed to “drag the West into war.”
  • In addition, Hungary believes that NATO’s multi-year plan for Ukraine “could lead to world war.” According to the Hungarian government, if NATO provides these funds within 5 years, the war will drag on for another 5 years.
