The Soviet sculpture of two workers, which was a symbol of the “reunification of Ukraine and Russia”, was nevertheless dismantled tonight, April 26.

This was announced Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko in his telegram channel. The monument was installed in Kyiv back in 1982.

According to Klitschko, the dismantling was not without symbolism – when they tried to raise the sculpture, the head of a Russian worker fell off, and then the specialists tried to cut down the pedestal on which the figures were installed , also turned out to be difficult.

The mayor of the capital noted that experts found a way out in the complexity of dismantling – they cut down the base of the monument itself. “Literally, they uprooted and removed the sculpture,” Klitschko stressed.

So we must wrest and expel the enemy and the Russian occupier from our land! Vitaliy Klitschko emphasized.

At the next session of the Kyiv City Council, a decision will be made to rename the site of the “Arch of Friendship of Peoples” into the “Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People.”

Recall that earlier Klitschko announced intention to dismantle about 60 more Russian-related monuments in Kyiv. In addition, more than 460 streets will be renamed.
