“Not our law enforcement officers, but Russian riot police”: Georgian journalist Melania Golembyovskaya on the protests in Tbilisi

The Georgian authorities have frozen the process of European integration, which is why protests have been going on in the country for several days now. Georgian law enforcement agencies are acting like Russian riot police, torturing people.

They are using water cannons and beating people, especially independent journalists. Georgian presenter Eka Mishveladze told Channel 24 about this, noting that the government's actions will no longer work, and that people can no longer be stopped.

“Not our law enforcement officers, but the Russian riot police”

The Georgian presenter said that Georgian law enforcement officers are behaving like Russian special forces, not like the Georgian police. They should be on the side of the protesters, but instead they are using water cannons and gas against people, and also beating them up badly.

I have only seen this in Russian cities. It is hard to imagine that this is happening in Georgia now. We hope that they (Georgian law enforcement – 24 Kanal) will think twice and stop acting against the people who want Georgia to be part of the European Union, – Mishveladze noted.

Georgian protesters are in the central part of Tbilisi, law enforcement agencies have already surrounded them. The opposing forces are very close.

Please note! The fourth President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, stressed that Vladimir Putin wants to “take his own” for negotiations before Donald Trump's inauguration in January next year.

The police have already captured about 100 people and are “hunting” independent journalists, whom they attack during live broadcasts.

They are using all the Russian methods of the Kremlin, intimidating people and blackmailing. However, nothing gets through to the pro-Russian government, no one is afraid of them. No one can stop this, the revolution in Georgia has already begun, – the Georgian presenter emphasized.

By the way, the first clashes in the capital of Georgia began on December 1. Georgians have traditionally gathered near the parliament building. Rallies are also planned near the headquarters of the Public Broadcaster and the business center of the leader of the pro-Russian “Georgian Dream” Ivanishvili. Protests have also begun in other cities of the country.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili condemned the actions of the security forces, calling them “Russian methods”, and the opposition called for new protests against the curtailment of the European integration course.
