The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War will now also work on the treatment of civilians who were captured by the invaders.

The corresponding decision was made by the government of Ukraine, on February 27, amending the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 03/11/2022 on the Coordination Headquarters.

This was reported by Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets on his Telegram channel.

— I have repeatedly raised the issue of finding and returning Ukrainian civilians who were deprived of their liberty or deported to the Russian Federation. The Office of the Ombudsman was involved and contributed to the implementation of these changes as much as possible, so I welcome the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, — the Ombudsman emphasized.

Lubinets added that an information system has now been introduced into the work of the Coordination Headquarters. This will simplify the work on the return of military personnel from captivity, as well as the return from captivity, in particular, of civilians illegally detained by Russia.

—The headquarters will be able to work more effectively with the families of illegally deprived of liberty civilians, missing persons, as well as citizens deported by the aggressor state, — summed up the diplomat.
