Doesn't look like Orban: why the Hungarian Prime Minister visited Ukraine Dzvenislava Moszowska

Victor Orban arrived in Ukraine on July 2 for a visit with Vladimir Zelensky. Hungary's position towards our state has often been ambiguous.

Director of the Institute of Central European Strategy Dmitry Tuzhansky told 24 Channel that Budapest’s position on appeasing Russia is supported by Hungarians and some leaders in Europe. This also coincides with China's original position.

Orbán's likely intentions

Dmitry Tuzhansky noted that Orban would like to be a mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. During the meeting with Zelensky, he was very delicate, did not demand or impose anything.

He (Orban – Channel 24) noted that appreciates all Zelensky’s peacekeeping efforts, but proposed his own idea. This doesn't sound like Orbán. “It is important to interpret correctly what he says,” said the director of the Institute for Central European Strategy.

In his opinion, the Hungarian Prime Minister will promote China’s “peace plan.” He is well versed in the current political situation, so he will use this for his own benefit.

Hungary's promises

Tuzhansky noted that Orban’s visit to Kyiv and his statements puzzled many in Ukraine and Europe. After all, in his opinion, the Prime Minister of Hungary has the image of a revanchist and ally of Vladimir Putin.

However, upon arriving in Ukraine, he communicated delicately and announced that he would finance the opening of a Ukrainian school in Hungary. According to the latest data, Ukrainians are the second or third largest community in Budapest after the Chinese, he said.

Dmitry Tuzhansky added that Russia will make a lot of efforts to destroy the probable settlement of cooperation between Ukraine and Hungary.
