Not Just Ukraine: What Trump and Putin Could Discuss in a Possible Phone Call Angela Figin

The new US President Donald Trump and the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin are signaling that they will hold a telephone conversation in the near future. On the eve of the expected conversation, both sides are defending their positions.

What issues could become key for Russia and the United States, strategic communications specialist and publicist Yuri Bogdanov told Channel 24 in detail. He added that Donald Trump has favorable conditions to end this war, but this is due to the fact that Russia and Ukraine have been waging a full-scale war for 3 years and are exhausted.

What issues are triggering for Russia and the United States

The entire range of issues regarding the Middle East is extremely painful for Russia and the United States. In particular, it is fundamental for the aggressor country to preserve its bases in Syria. Moscow is also interested in the oil pipeline from Kurdistan through Turkey starting up again, since there are Russian shareholders there.

The Houthis issue remains open for the Kremlin, because Russia indirectly supports them through Iran. The Houthis are currently in Saudi Arabia. At the same time, Vladimir Putin is concerned about Iran itself and Africa.

The Russian presence in the Sahel is very aggressive. At the same time, the American interest is that the region does not burn, Bogdanov noted.

Western media are reporting on negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine and a ceasefire on terms favorable to the Kremlin. However, the strategic communications specialist noted that it is theoretically possible to force Kyiv to reconcile without benefit to Ukraine.

Today, there are no mechanisms for Trump to single-handedly take Russia's side and force Ukraine to de facto capitulate. With all my skepticism about Trump, I don't think he will do this and can think so, – Bogdanov said.

Most likely, during the first call, Trump will voice what the US wants, and Putin will say that Russia is allegedly “a victim of the criminal policies of the Democrats.” As a result, they may come to the conclusion that they need to meet and talk, and then meet on the sidelines of some summit in Saudi Arabia.

Recall that Trump called for direct communication with Putin several times during the first days of his second term. To which the Kremlin responded that Russia was allegedly ready to hold talks on Ukraine, and Putin was only waiting for a signal from Washington for a telephone conversation with Trump.

The Presidential Office believes that the Russian dictator is trying to promote the idea of negotiations with the United States.
