Ukraine this year began to transport electricity to Russia. However, this does not happen in sufficient quantities.
An adviser to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Lana Zerkal told about this for Channel 24.
“We disconnected from the Russians a few hours before the start of the new invasion and joined the European power grid. Indeed, we did this a year and a half earlier than planned. The pace at which we are connecting, they are unexpected, but really a little less than we would like,” the adviser said.
Seize the opportunity
According to Zerkal, we wanted to supply already 800 megawatts of electricity and get paid accordingly. So far we are limited to 300.
It's really annoying, but for us the main thing is not to miss this opportunity due to internal problems. Ensure that our home task of repairing all generating capacity is completed,” the adviser noted.
Who hinders Ukraine
Zerkal explained that Ukraine has obstacles in the supply of electricity. There is an organization consisting of 30 operators that ensure the transportation of electrical energy within continental Europe.
As Zerkal said, these operators monitor very carefully so that the networks work properly, so that everything works like a Swiss watch . In addition, there is another working group headed by the Hungarians.
They track the possible impacts on the market volume, how Ukrainian exports can affect it. And they are in no hurry to confirm our calculations. They even say that there is no need to hurry, because they have not launched the entire system yet, they have not checked it. They are slow to make decisions for understandable Hungarian reasons. We don't think it's a coincidence, Zerkal said.
She recalled that even Ursula von der Leyen said in her speech that Ukraine is badly needed by the European Union, which is experiencing a shortage of electricity. Ukraine has a surplus that it can supply and receive money for it.
“At the same time, this non-political technical structure has reduced the minimum opportunity for us, because the Hungarian the operator did not calculate the figures that we provided. They just had to confirm them,” Zerkal explained.
