Several thousand soldiers from North Korea are currently undergoing training in Russia and may be sent to the front lines in Ukraine before the end of this year.

A representative of Ukrainian military intelligence told The Washington Post journalists about this on condition of anonymity. Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov allegedly rejected claims that Pyongyang was sending its troops to fight in Ukraine, calling them “deception.”

The WP source said that North Korean officers are already in the occupied territories to observe Russian troops and study the battlefield. At the same time, Ukraine has not yet seen any North Korean units participating in the fighting.

The military intelligence representative noted that it is not yet clear where exactly on the front the combat units that are training in Russia will be stationed. According to him, Moscow can use them in the border regions of Russia to free up Russian troops for fighting in Ukraine.

This can have a significant impact. Especially if we are talking about freeing up reserves on the territory of Russia itself, the source said.

It is noted that some South Korean experts also call such a scenario possible.

By the way, a high-ranking EU diplomat previously stated that the European Union has no evidence of the presence of North Korean troops on the territory of Ukraine. However, the EU continues to monitor developments.
