The Russians at the front really need the accumulation of reserves and reinforcements. However, no matter how “fairy truces” Vladimir Putin announces, Ukraine does not even consider these words seriously.
This was announced on Channel 24 by Mikhail Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the President's Office. Ukrainians should understand that if Russia offers something, it is a fake offer.
On Christmas Eve, Vladimir Putin announced the so-called “Christmas truce”.
According to Podolyak, Ukraine does not consider the words of the Russians in the context of “believe it or not.” Russia has entered our territory, bombing cities, killing citizens and suddenly declaring some kind of truce. The Russians want to distort the information reality.
Why is that? You are fighting on our territory, it's not us on your territory. We do not destroy civilian infrastructure, do not kill your citizens. What truce? We are liberating our territory,” Podolyak stressed.
Ukraine has its own agenda
The politician is convinced that Russia is pursuing the goal of a propaganda effect. She wants to put us back on her agenda and say: “Russia is initiating something and Ukraine is clinging to it.” So it was before. The next step, Podolyak suggests, will be a proposal to sit down at the negotiating table, a proposal to give up part of the Ukrainian territories in order to reach an agreement.
Ukraine does not talk to Russia, we will not play the agenda proposed by Russia, the speaker stressed.
The only condition for starting any communication with Russia is the immediate withdrawal of all troops from the territory of Ukraine, said the adviser to the Head of the President's Office. And since this is Russia, another point is the cessation of cruise missile attacks on our cities.
According to Podolyak, if there is a dialogue with Russia, then it will talk about fixing a demilitarized trans-border zone, about issues of long-term reparations and the extradition of collaborators and war criminals.

Position of the West
Podolyak emphasized the change in rhetoric and the consolidated position of Western countries. They said a few important things:
- expressed no confidence in Putin;
- recognized that the only way to end the war is the withdrawal of Russian troops;
- Russian lies were answered by increasing and accelerating military assistance to Ukraine, because this is the only way to stop the war;
- realized that the scaling of the war is possible only if Ukraine loses. If Ukraine wins and liberates its territory, then the war will be localized in the occupied territories and there will be no escalation;
- The West is handing over weapons so that the war does not spread further.
At the beginning of the war, the Western countries said they were not handing over weapons because they were afraid that the war would escalate. Today, on the contrary, everyone understands that if Ukraine has everything necessary to liberate its territories and inflict a military defeat on Russia, there will be no scaling of the war,” Podolyak added.
Russian propaganda “blown away”
The position of Western countries suggests that Russian propaganda no longer works at all, multibillion-dollar infusions of money do not work, Podolyak noted.
They will try, they will hysteria, panic, they will spend a lot of money, they will use all the lobbyists they can to force Ukraine to at least somehow accept the capitulation conditions of Russia, Podolyak is sure.
He stressed that the initiative in Ukraine, the agenda is formed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine, and everyone understands this.
“Fake Truce”
The adviser to the Head of the Office of the President advises calling the so-called “Christmas truce” a “fairy truce” so as not to dirty the word Christmas.
Podolyak notes that the Russians wanted Ukraine to temporarily stop attacking the security infrastructure, so that the invaders could quickly bring at least some number of shells or armored vehicles to the places of breakthroughs and try to enter there massively again.
According to the politician, Bakhmut is a key goal for the Russians. Firstly, this is the career growth of Yevgeny Prigozhin, convincing everyone that the Russian military cannot fight, but the “Wagnerites” and convicts can. Secondly, the Russians want to get at least some achievements against the backdrop of military losses
We understand this, the Ukrainian military understands. Yes, heavy fighting is going on in the Donetsk direction. No words of Russia affect us,” the speaker stressed.
What is known about the Russian “truce”
- On the evening of January 5, it became known that Vladimir Putin ordered a ceasefire to be introduced from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7 along the entire line of clashes between the parties in Ukraine.
- The German Foreign Ministry Annalena Berbock responded to the suggestion of the Russian dictator. She said that if Vladimir Putin wanted peace, he would bring his soldiers home.
- Analysts at the American Institute of War are convinced that Putin's announcement of a ceasefire is a publicity stunt to damage Ukraine's reputation.
