On December 4, the US presidential administration sent an urgent appeal to Congress. In it, the White House asks congressmen to allocate money for military and financial assistance to Ukraine.

The Biden administration has warned that funds allocated for assistance to Ukraine will expire before the end of the year. The situation at the front in our country may depend on US assistance.

The White House sent a warning letter to Congress

In a letter released Dec. 4, Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young warned House and Senate leaders about the possibility of running out of funds for arms and aid to Ukraine.

Young stressed that if this happens before the end of the year, it will “bring Kyiv to its knees on the battlefield” and will also “increase the likelihood of Russian military victories.”

“Without Congressional action by the end of the year, we will run out of resources to purchase more weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as well as to provide equipment to the U.S. military stockpile,” Young wrote.

She noted that the United States has exhausted its financial resources intended to support the Ukrainian economy. Additionally, Young said that if the Ukrainian economy collapses, it will leave the nation unable to sustain the ongoing conflict.

There is no magic pot of funding that will get us through this challenge. We have run out of money and almost run out of time,” the official emphasized in the letter.

The official also noted a decrease in military aid packages sent from the United States to Ukraine. Noting the importance of American support, she noted that the United States is critical to supporting the Ukrainian economy and this contribution cannot be replaced by anyone.

The official warned that, recognizing this vulnerability, Russia was strategically targeting Ukraine's economy, attacking its grain exports and energy infrastructure.

In the letter, Young also noted that providing financial assistance to Ukraine would also benefit the American economy.

The White House said what they will focus on in helping Ukraine

  • US National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby stressed that the United States will focus on three areas in helping Ukraine. This assistance should help our state get through the winter with dignity.
  • In particular, the United States plans to strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainian air defense and strengthen the energy infrastructure of our state. In addition, the White House wants to transfer backup equipment and materials to Ukraine to provide Ukrainians with electricity and heat.
  • Kirby noted that the United States expects Russia to use tactics of shelling Ukrainian energy, as in the winter of 2022. This is evidenced by the latest drone attacks and missile strikes.
