Stake on artillery mobility
According to Katkov, L-119 or L-118 howitzers are nicknamed light gun (“light gun”). They occupy a place in the ranks closer to the howitzers of 122-mm systems, for example, D-30, which need to be replaced. In addition, they act as 122-mm mortars, because they have a very high angle of elevation of the barrel, which allows you to work quite efficiently throughout the territory.
Earlier, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace explained that the main thing is not only range, but also the mobility of fire. So, a 105-mm howitzer allows you to very quickly deliver to a position, decompose, fire very quickly, because there are unitary shells, and reloading takes place very quickly, cover it with fire and change the position.
“This is very important in terms of counter-battery combat,” Katkov stressed.
The new 105-mm howitzers should replace the 122-mm systems. Their number increases by 18 times. “The Pentagon is very attentive to what weapons we use, how effective they are. And only after they have demonstrated their effectiveness, they expand supplies,” the military expert noted.
He added that the range is 105 -mm howitzers with a conventional projectile is up to 17.5 km. With active-reactive – more than 20 kilometers.
Superiority is not in the range of fire. She, of course, will be inferior to the M-777, PzH-2000 and Ceasar. But her trick is that she is very mobile. This is the concept of warfare, when you compensate for a small combat capability with mobility. You can move faster in the battlefield, move fire faster from one place to another.
