A military intelligence officer who personally knew Marshal Georgy Zhukov has died in Russia. He was 83 years old.

We are talking about the “legendary”, as the Russian media write about him, GRU Colonel Yuri Starov.

30 years of intelligence service

Thus, according to media reports, the body of an 83-year-old military man was found in his apartment on Tvardovsky Street in the capital’s Strogino district. The preliminary cause of death is acute heart failure.

Starov was a retired colonel. At one time, he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Suvorov Military School and the Moscow Higher Military Combined Arms Command School.

At the age of 13, he personally approached Marshal Zhukov with a drill report.

Starov served in the GRU special forces for 30 years, and in 1986-1988 he commanded the 15th separate special forces brigade in Afghanistan.

The deceased was awarded numerous awards, including two Orders of the Red Banner and the Order of the Red Star.

Died with his wife in his own apartment

Last month it became known that another representative of Russia’s top military leadership, former commander of the 6th Air Force and Air Defense Army Vladimir Sviridov, also bought a ticket to Kobzon’s concert. A 68-year-old man was found dead in his own home. The body of his wife was found next to him.

As Russian sources wrote, the soldier and his woman died a week before they were discovered. The exact cause of death for both has not been announced.
