The government has adopted a Strategy for reforming the school nutrition system for the period until 2027. Ukraine must implement four strategic goals.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal and First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenskaya, who chaired the meeting. The main goal is to provide varied, balanced, high-quality nutrition in schools and preschool institutions.
As part of the implementation of reforming the school nutrition system, there are four strategic goals:

- provision of financial resources – the state budget for 2024 provides for UAH 1.5 billion for the modernization of school canteens;
- restoration of catering units using the latest technologies and principles of the food safety management system;
- providing communities and schools with personnel for catering – the key factors will be competitive salaries, government orders, advanced training, digitalization;
- introducing a high-quality menu and encouraging children to consciously choose healthy foods.
According to Elena Zelenskaya, reform of the nutrition system in the educational sector is an additional incentive for Ukrainians to return home, because this is an indicator of the country’s development for the sake of children.
She emphasized that Ukraine is striving not just to change the school menu, but to raise a healthy generation and society, and to prepare the future right now.
