New Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga
New Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga spoke about the future of relations with Russia. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tokyo is determined to develop relations with Moscow in various areas, including the conclusion of a peace treaty on the Kuril Islands. It is emphasized that the Japanese side will build its policy based on its national interests.
Earlier it became known that Yoshihide Suga received the majority of votes of the deputies of the House of Representatives of the Parliament. Thus, he became the new prime minister of Japan.
On September 16, the entire government of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe resigned. It is known that Defense Minister Taro Kono will leave his post, and his place will be taken by Nobuo Kishi – the younger brother of Abe, who was previously Deputy Foreign Minister. Kono will become the Minister of State responsible for civil service reforms.
On August 28, Abe announced his intention to resign. The decision was made due to health problems: ulcerative colitis, which had long tormented the politician, worsened. Abe said that he deeply apologizes for the inability to fulfill his duties and regrets that he did not achieve the conclusion of a peace treaty with Russia.
