Japan's new Foreign Minister arrived in Ukraine on November 16 for an unannounced visit. Takeshi Iwaya will meet with Andriy Sibiga.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry confirmed that Takeshi Iwaya visited Ukraine for talks with officials. In particular, meetings with Andriy Sybiha.

Japan will continue to promote resolute support for Ukraine and strict sanctions against Russia, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

They also noted that the minister will inform about Japan's efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and will exchange views with his Ukrainian counterpart with the aim of continuing close bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Japan will express serious concern about the latest developments in military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including the dispatch of DPRK soldiers to Russia. The Foreign Minister will also exchange candid views on the current situation with his Ukrainian counterparts.

In addition, the parties will discuss public-private cooperation for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Ukraine, including efforts to hold a Conference on Mine Action in Ukraine, which will be held in Japan next year.

Journalists noted that this is the first visit by a Japanese minister since Shigeru Ishiba became prime minister last month. The publication also writes that a representative of the ministry reported on allegedly possible negotiations with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
