The Polish government has already transferred about 400 tanks to Ukraine and is now considering the possibility of transferring MiG-29 aircraft.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski during a joint press conference with the recently appointed head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andriy Sybiha.
Military aid from Poland
— We have now transferred to Ukraine about 400 tanks, PT-91-91, T-72 and Leopard 2, which are now defending Ukraine, and some, as I heard, are also participating in the actions in the Kursk region, — said Sikorski.
In particular, according to him, Poland had previously provided Ukraine with Krab howitzers and other elements of military aid.
Now watching
— And I was pleased to hear that our equipment, in particular Polish-made, showed itself well, — the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, the minister added that Poland is considering new military aid in the future.
— In particular, perhaps the MiG-29 aircraft, which are needed today to protect Polish skies. But perhaps the allies will help us with the air patrol mission over Poland, which will make the implementation of the transfer step possible, — said Sikorski.
The Polish Foreign Minister stressed that Ukraine has the right to use Western weapons to prevent Russian war crimes, since the Kremlin gives orders to strike hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants and other civilian targets.
— Ukraine has a sacred right to prevent these crimes by shooting down Russian bombers, as well as attacking other targets that contribute to the killing of Ukrainians. The only restriction imposed on Ukraine is what is obligatory for all of us: compliance with international humanitarian law, — he said.
Foreign Minister Sikorski added that Poland supports Ukraine in matters of energy security in the face of the challenges of autumn and winter.
Polish MiG-29s for Ukraine
Recall that at the end of August, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that one of the most pressing issues in Ukraine's relations with Poland is the supply of MiG-29s, which are in service with the Polish military.
At the same time, Zelensky said then, the Polish government has still not taken the appropriate step, although Kiev regularly receives relevant requests.
Later, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that The Polish government may transfer MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, but for this, Western allies must provide the Polish military with modern F-35 aircraft, which were previously ordered from the United States.
