The Netherlands refused to deport a Russian couple who revealed important information about the crash of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 on flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. This is reported by the Volkskrant newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the country's authorities have denied the spouses' requests for asylum three times. It was only recently that the country's Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) decided to grant their request.

Earlier in July, it was reported that the Netherlands was going to expel the Russians who accidentally learned some information about the plane crash. According to local media reports, the couple moved to the kingdom in 2016, but they only reported the details of the case known to them after two years of living in the country – in 2018. The Migration Board considered that withholding information for two years was unethical and blameworthy.

A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 on flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in the Donetsk region on July 17, 2014. There were 298 people on board, all of whom died.
