Navy and GUR strike gas rig with occupiers in Black Sea

by alex

Ukrainian military in the Black Sea attacked a gas rig where Russians were holed up.

First, the monitoring resource Crimean Wind reported this. This was later confirmed by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmitry Pletenchuk, on his Facebook page, but later hid the message.

According to him, the coastal missile and artillery troops of the Ukrainian Navy, in partnership with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, struck the occupiers at sea.

Dmitry Pletenchuk noted that the Russian occupiers used this tower for GPS spoofing to make civilian shipping dangerous. And Ukraine could not allow this.

Half a day before the defeat, the enemy dropped equipment and military personnel onto the platform. There were no civilians there. The platform did not perform its standard functionality.

It is worth noting that some time after the publication, Dmitry Pletenchuk deleted his message from social networks about the strike on the gas rig.

According to the monitoring group Crimean Wind, the strike on the gas production rig occurred at night and is still burning there.

Updated at 16:00. On the air of Yedinye Novyny, Dmitry Pletenchuk told how the Russian military used a gas platform at sea.

— False GPS signals are sent to interfere with systems that rely on them. For example, ships. Considering that this is the northern part of the sea, such actions (GPS spoofing) could affect the functioning of our grain corridor… Some systems even work automatically on these coordinates, – said Pletenchuk.

As for possible enemy losses on this rig, they still need to be further investigated. The representative of the Navy once again emphasized that there were no civilian gas workers on the rig, only Russian military.

“Boyko's rigs”

Until 2014, Ukraine extracted gas in the Black Sea using mobile drilling platforms acquired under the then Minister of Energy Yuriy Boyko. That is why these platforms are popularly called “Boyko rigs”.

In March 2014, “Boyko rigs” were taken under control by the Russian military. In December 2015, “Boyko rigs” were moved to territorial waters near Crimea.

In September 2023, it was reported that during a special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Ukraine regained control of “Boyko rigs” — drilling platforms Petro Godovanets and Ukraine, as well as self-elevating drilling rigs Tavrida and Sivash.
