Jens Stoltenberg noted that Russia has been threatening Western countries since 2022 due to the fact that they help Ukraine defend itself from the aggressor. He believes that these threats have no basis and have never been implemented.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this before the start of the Alliance ministerial meeting in Prague.

Russia's threats will never come true

Stoltenberg also stressed that threats from Russia are nothing new.

We have been providing assistance to Ukraine since 2022. For a long time, Putin intimidated us, urging us not to do this. Even before the invasion in February 2022, he warned us not to help Ukraine and threatened consequences, – said the Secretary General.

In addition, he repeated the statement he made before the start of the NATO meeting , that Ukraine must hit Russia in order to defend itself. According to him, Ukraine has the right to self-defense using Alliance weapons. He assured that this would not make NATO a participant in the war.

Jens Stoltenberg added that responsibility for a possible escalation would lie with Russia, as has happened more than once since 2022. He stated that it was Russia, not Ukraine, that was stirring up hostility. Right now Russia has opened a new front in the Kharkov region.

Key Western countries have given Ukraine permission to attack Russia

  • The United States allowed Ukraine to use American weapons to attack Russian territory. However, there will be certain restrictions. Presidential Press Secretary Sergei Nikiforov noted that Ukraine began to receive positive signals through diplomatic channels about the limited use of American weapons in the region bordering Kharkov.
  • Germany also agreed with Ukraine that it will use German weapons “in accordance with international law” to defend against Russian attacks launched by the enemy from the border areas. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said this. In fact, the Germans allowed their weapons to be used against Russia.
  • Among the countries that previously allowed Russia to use their weapons against targets: Great Britain, Poland, Sweden, France, Canada, Czech Republic , Netherlands, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
