NATO noted that the mission of the Alliance's missile defense system is to protect the European population, territory and NATO forces from the growing threat that constitute ballistic missiles.

This is an important step for transatlantic security and NATO's ability to defend against the growing ballistic missile threat, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg .

According to him, ballistic missiles were widely used in the war in Ukraine and the Middle East.

As a Defense Alliance, we cannot ignore this threat. Missile defense is an important element of NATO’s core mission of collective defense, Stoltenberg emphasized.

The Alliance also added that elements of NATO’s missile defense shield are two American Aegis Ashore facilities in Poland and Romania, US Navy destroyers in Spain and an early warning radar in Turkish Kurecik.

By the way, it also became known earlier that the US and German governments agreed that the United States would deploy winged long-range Tomahawk missiles in Germany. These cruise missiles have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers and are primarily used to attack ground targets.
