NATO member countries are discussing the possibility of taking control of the protection of the sky in part of the territory Ukraine. We are talking, in particular, about the western regions of our state.

Journalists from the German newspaper Bild, citing their own sources, emphasized that some NATO countries are ready to expand support for Kyiv and act directly on Ukrainian territory. However, there are also opponents to such a potential NATO solution.

NATO is discussing the possibility of covering the sky over Western Ukraine

According to German journalists, countries such as Estonia, Great Britain, and Poland are in favor of expanding assistance, including protecting the sky in Western Ukraine , Canada, Lithuania, France. The USA and Germany spoke out against it.

The publication emphasized that there are no final decisions on this issue yet. But negotiations are ongoing on several areas at once. Although neither NATO nor the Alliance member countries have officially reported on any negotiations yet.

One of these areas is training. Journalists emphasized that the Alliance is discussing the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers by NATO instructors on the territory of Ukraine.

Thoughts about whether hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians should fly across Europe for the sake of training, or better yet, sending several instructors to Western Ukraine should not be discounted. It’s smarter and more economical to send instructors to Ukraine,” Nico Lange, former head of the operational headquarters of the German Ministry of Defense, told BILD.

Another issue is logistics. According to the German newspaper, a number of NATO countries, including Great Britain, Canada and Estonia, are ready in the future to deliver weapons and ammunition not only to the borders of Ukraine, but also further to the front line. Now the concept of “advanced logistics” is being developed in several Western countries.

The partners also discussed issues of air defense for our state. In particular, the issue of protecting the airspace of Western Ukraine with NATO anti-aircraft systems was raised. Poland is the initiator of the “extended air defense”, but as journalists noted, there is no final decision yet.
