It was initially estimated that this UAV was made of plywood and foam plastic. No cargo was found on it, the object does not pose a threat.
It is noted that border guards have recently frequently recorded attempts to transport contraband cigarettes from Belarus to Lithuania using drones, balloons and homemade unmanned aerial vehicles.
Upon initial learning of the drone, Lithuania changed the readiness status of fighter jets carrying out NATO air policing missions from training to mission status.
However, after the object fell, the task was cancelled.
– The thing is that it managed to fly in. We need to talk about whether it was detected, whether it was visible, whether there was an attempt to neutralize it in some way… We know that the Belarusian armed forces are conducting certain exercises, I imagine that it was considered a target that was supposed to be shot down, and something probably went wrong, – commented on the situation the Chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee (NSGK) of the Seimas Giedrimas Jeglinskas.
He added that it was too early to speculate whether this was a provocation against Lithuania.
