On the first day of the NATO Summit, China began military exercises in the Pacific Ocean. The Times believes this means the alliance is moving closer to direct confrontation with Beijing.

Chinese authorities have ordered military exercises near key Western allies. At the same time, leaders at the Alliance summit in Washington expressed a warning to Xi Jinping about his military posture.

NATO-China Confrontation

The Times' China correspondent Richard Spencer notes that in the NATO Summit communiqué, Western leaders described Beijing as a “decisive factor” contributing to the Russian military effort and a systemic challenge to Euro-Atlantic security.< /p>

At the same time, China itself chose the beginning of the Summit to begin maritime exercises in the Western Pacific. They involve the aircraft carrier Shandong and fighter jets. In particular, it is known that Shandong entered the Pacific Ocean via a different route than usual – near the Philippines, which is another American ally.

It is worth pointing out that these military exercises are taking place in parallel with joint patrols of the Pacific Ocean by China and Russia and joint “anti-terrorist exercises” of the armies of China and Belarus.
