There are fears that Russia may officially regard the supply of Western battle tanks and combat aircraft as entry into the war and take military retaliatory measures. Weapons systems of this type have not yet been delivered to Ukraine. This informal arrangement is known in Berlin.
The Defense Committee was fully informed of this in mid-May, said defense policy spokesman Wolfgang Helmich.
Countries themselves decide what to supply to Ukraine
According to a NATO spokesman, all supply decisions are up to the individual member countries. So far, they have respected informal agreements, in particular due to fears that they will not receive the full support of their partners from the alliance in the event of a Russian attack.

NATO opinion may change
In the circles of the alliance, it is emphasized that the risk analysis for the supply of weapons is constantly updated. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that at some point Western battle tanks and fighter jets will also arrive in Ukraine, the agency notes.
