People in despair expressed their anger because they felt abandoned. There were also calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Carlos Mason, the regional leader of Valencia.
The guards covered Sanchez with umbrellas and escorted him away from the scene.
— What did they expect? The people are very angry. Pedro Sanchez should have been here with a shovel on the first day, — one angry local told El País newspaper.
People approached the king and complained about their misfortune, but one young man also approached him and said to Felipe VI: You have abandoned us. You're four days late.
The man also asked the king why the Civil Protection Service, which is overseen by the Valencian regional government, sent out an alarm just hours after the state meteorological agency warned of worsening weather conditions.
—They knew it, they knew it. And yet they did nothing. It's a disgrace, the man shouted at the king.
In Paiport, Mayor Maribel Albalat described the situation as desperate. The flood waters have caused chaos for 29,000 residents, with parts of the city still inaccessible, she said.
— It's impossible because there are bodies, there are vehicles with bodies, and they need to be removed, said Maribel Albalat.
Albalat said the death toll in the small town due to flooding has risen to 70 and is likely to rise in the coming days.
Aldaya Mayor Guillermo Lujan said the entire town of more than 30,000 people is in ruins due to the flooding, leaving people very angry and devastated.
A massive flood in Spain has killed at least 205 people on November 1 man.
