The prosecutor's office has identified two Russian soldiers involved in the shooting of Ukrainian children's writer Vladimir Vakulenko and the murder of three more people during the occupation of the Kharkov region.
They were informed of suspicion of violation of the laws and customs of war (part 2 of article 27, part 1, part 2 of article 28 and part 1, part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Both occupiers are natives of Lugansk and are serving in the 4th company of the 4th battalion of the 204th rifle regiment of the mobilization reserve of the so-called LPR of the 2nd army corps of the 8th combined arms army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.

One of them is the commander of this company with the call sign Lev, the other is his subordinate, a machine gunner nicknamed Hoopoe.
Investigators established that on March 22, 2022, armed suspects who were in the occupied Katolovka, Izyum district, arrived at the home of Ukrainian children's writer Vladimir Vakulenko, having learned that he condemned the actions of the Russian Federation.
The occupiers conducted searches and detained the writer along with his 14-year-old son. They tried to persuade the man to cooperate, but received a decisive refusal. Both were returned home, but on March 24 they returned to pick up Vakulenko again.
After this, the company commander ordered his subordinate machine gunner to shoot the writer with a Makarov pistol. The writer died on the spot from his injuries.
These occupiers are also charged with the murders of three more civilians, including a former ATO participant and two men. They were kept in a cellar and tortured. And then they took me to the forest in Kapitolovka and shot me.

According to the examination, two were killed by shots from Makarov, and they beat the third to death.
The fact of cruel treatment of civilians by the occupiers has also been proven. They stuffed a hryvnia bill into the mouth of one of the detainees and threatened to shoot him if he took it out. The man was kept in the cellar for some time, and then released.
The issue of putting both suspects on the wanted list is now being decided. The identification of other Russians who committed crimes together with Lev and Hoopoe continues.
