In Moscow, the deputy commander of the Russian engineering troops was buried without unnecessary noise: there is a nuance in his death Sergei Popovich

The last day for Russian Major General, Deputy Commander of the Engineering Troops of the Russian Armed Forces Konstantin Smeshko was December 26. He was buried in Moscow privately and without official statements about the cause of death.

The cause of the death of the Russian general could have been a HIMARS missile. This was reported by Channel 24 with reference to military and political observer Alexander Kovalenko.

What is known about the circumstances of the death of the Russian general

61-year-old Smeshko held a number of high positions in the Russian military. He headed the engineering troops in the Far Eastern, Eastern and Southern military districts, and since 2017 he was deputy commander of the engineering troops of the Russian Federation. During his years of service, Smeshko received more than 10 medals from the leadership.

His death was analyzed by military and political observer Alexander Kovalenko. He noted that it was at this time that the Ukrainian special services GUR, SBU, SBS and OSUV “Tavria” carried out a successful operation to eliminate three officers of the 4th Guards Military Base of Russia.

The strike using HIMARS and attack drones hit the leadership, in particular:

  • Dmitry Nagorny, captain, commander of the 1st Battalion of the 135th Motorized Rifle Regiment,
  • Grigory Krokhmalev, captain, chief of intelligence of the same regiment,
  • Yuri Fomin, captain, commander of the base's anti-aircraft battery.

But this is just due to the coincidence of the dates of the liquidation of these officers and the unexpected death of Konstantin Smeshko, Kovalenko noted ironically.

Recall that Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces, was blown up in Moscow. Kirillov was suspected of war crimes, in particular, the use of chemical weapons against the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
