According to the publication, Beckham required surgery due to a hand injury he sustained during a friendly match against South Africa in Durban in May 2003.
A recent X-ray showed that the pin that was used to immobilize the wrist and should have dissolved was actually left in the forearm.
“David had been in pain for years but didn't think much of it. He just carried on with his life until the pain became unbearable in the last few months. X-rays showed the pin had not dissolved, so he was booked in for surgery to finally solve the problem after all these years,” a source told the paper.
The Sun's source also said that Beckham's wife was at his bedside after the operation and that everything went well.
David Beckham broke his wrist after falling in the first half against South Africa. He played on with his arm in a sling and was only substituted late in the second half, when Jermaine Jenas came on.
In the match itself, Beckham scored an assist, and the game ended with a victory for the Three Lions team.
