The Japanese government plans to allocate $106 million for the restoration of Ukraine after the war. This support will cover seven areas such as infrastructure restoration and mine clearance.

Journalists from the Japanese publication The Mainichi noted that the governments of the two countries plan to agree on Japan's participation in the post-war reconstruction of our state and will sign more than 10 memorandums of cooperation at the Japanese-Ukrainian conference on promoting economic recovery. It is due to take place on February 19 in Tokyo.

Japan will allocate $106 million for the restoration of Ukraine

The Tokyo conference, which will take place on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, comes at a time when there is growing concern about declining Western military support for Ukraine.

According to sources, $106 million in aid will be used to provide mine clearance equipment, pontoon bridges and other resources urgently needed to rebuild the war-torn country.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal will take part in the reconstruction conference along with about 300 other officials and company representatives.

Seven areas of cooperation also include expanding agriculture, improving the humanitarian situation , biotechnology and industrial improvement, information technology, and strengthened governance and anti-corruption measures, the sources said.

Japan is keen to demonstrate its commitment to supporting Ukraine through public-private cooperation and will support Japanese firms that open businesses in the country,” the authors of the material noted.

According to sources, memorandums of cooperation that will be signed at the meeting cover medical care, cybersecurity and wind farm projects.

The two governments also plan to begin negotiations on an investment agreement aimed at facilitating the participation of Japanese companies in reconstruction projects.

Japan and Ukraine are also expected to sign an agreement to eliminate double taxation for companies doing business in Ukraine.
