Morawiecki believes that the allies can transfer up to 100 Leopard tanks to Ukraine

Western partners help Ukraine drive out and destroy the enemy. Moreover, for this, some states are ready to provide modern Leopard 2 tanks.

Among such countries is Poland, which at the beginning of 2023 announced the transfer of a company of tanks. And this, we note, is more than 10 units.

More than 10

However, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that together the allies can transfer much more of these weapons to Ukraine. We are talking about up to 100 tanks.

We have planned our 14 Leopard tanks and now we are waiting for Leopards from Denmark, Finland, Germany and tanks from other EU countries,” he said .

Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview that the government in Warsaw wants to “inspire others” to send at least 100 tanks so “we can make a difference on the battlefield in Ukraine”.

Germany must unlock the transfer of tanks

The Polish Prime Minister also noted that he spoke with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and encouraged him to unlock aid for Ukraine as quickly as possible. After all, we recall that Germany did not want to transfer these weapons before other partner states would also provide modern tanks.

Although there is no German decision to transfer tanks, a number of countries have already announced this intention. Among them, in particular, Poland and Finland. Moreover, Mateusz Morawiecki named Denmark in this list.

It is also worth noting that Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that out of 12 countries that have Leopard 2s in service, at least 5 are ready to transfer them to Ukraine. However, such a transfer without the consent of the German government is not possible.

In return, Olaf Scholz said that he was already negotiating with the allies about the possible supply of Leopard heavy tanks to Ukraine. However, he also warned that any announcements should be made in concert with others.

Leopard 2 for Ukraine: what is known

  • Earlier, a representative of the Polish government, Piotr Muller, said that his country would put pressure on other states to transfer modern tanks to Ukraine. This is because Poland understands that if Ukraine loses, Russia will not stop.
  • Note that the head of the British Ministry of Defense, Ben Wallace, also called on Olaf Scholz to transfer Leopard to Ukraine. In his opinion, such a decision by Germany could become an impetus for other wavering states.
  • On January 17, it became known that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was negotiating with the allies about the possibility of transferring heavy tanks to Ukraine. At the same time, he once again noted that any announcements must be consistent with others.
