Moms Who Work From Home Earn More – Study

by alex

A new study from the University of Wuppertal in Germany has found that mothers who work from home earn around 10% more than their office-based colleagues.

Interestingly, no such advantages were found for men with children or single female parents.

Flexible schedule + productivity

The study, led by Johanna Paulix, was the first such project to be based on ten years of observations.

The sample included 8,869 employees — those who switched to remote work were compared with those who remained in the office. For objectivity, age, level of education, and other important parameters were taken into account.

It turned out that mothers working remotely earn 9-12% more than their office colleagues. At the same time, men with children and single women did not feel an increase in income.

— Working from home allows you to more effectively fulfill your life obligations and work more productively. This has a positive effect on your career and earnings, — says the researcher.

Her work also challenges the popular stereotype that flexible working is bad for your career: for mothers, it's the opposite.
