A Moldovan peacekeeper was found dead at a Russian-Moldovan post near the so-called Transnistria. The investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred between the cities of Causeni and Benederi. The tragic incident was officially reported by the press service of the Moldovan Ministry of Defense.

What is known about the incident

On September 12, a contract soldier of the National Army of Moldova, who serves in the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, received a fatal gunshot wound. The country's Defense Ministry reported that the serviceman was “mortally wounded” as a result of a shot from a weapon he was carrying while on duty.

According to information from the Operational Command Center, the incident occurred at 17:50. Medics who arrived at the scene confirmed the death of the soldier.

A group of police forensic experts is currently investigating the case to clarify all the circumstances. The soldier served in the National Army under contract since 2023.

The Ministry of Defense expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased soldier and will provide all the necessary support to clarify this sad case, the Moldovan Defense Ministry reported.

It is worth noting that the incident occurred on the conflict line between Moldova and Russia, right near Transnistria, which is quasi-formed by the aggressor country. Moldovan and Russian military personnel are stationed on the demarcation line.
