The prosecutor's office opened proceedings due to the death of military officer Bogdan Pokitko, who died a month after being drafted. What threatens the guilty – read on.
This was reported by Yulia Shevchenko, a representative of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the military and defense sphere of the Western Region.
What threatens the guilty
“On February 20, criminal proceedings under Article 425 of the Criminal Code were registered on this fact. This is a negligent attitude towards military service. Special prosecutors establish the involvement of persons whose probable negligence led to serious consequences. The maximum sentence provided for by the sanction of the article is from 5 to 8 years of imprisonment“, – says speaker Yulia Shevchenko.
Recall that on February 19, a message appeared on the network that a mobilized resident of Ternopil died four days after arriving at the front and did not have a proper preparation. The TCC and the mayor's office promised to conduct an investigation.
The mobilized was immediately sent to the Donetsk region
Oksana Ogorodnik, a friend of the deceased, recorded a video message in which she stated that in the second half of January, Bogdan was handed a summons at a bus stop in Ternopil. The conscript had not previously been in military service, and after being drafted, he did not undergo training in a military unit and at a training ground, but he was sent to the front without training.
Journalist Yuri Butusov subsequently reported that Bogdan's family contacted him, who want to make this story as public as possible:
- On January 16, Bogdan Pokitko was handed a summons at a bus stop in Ternopil – he immediately underwent a medical examination, and on January 18 he became a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Bogdan was enrolled in the security company of the Ternopil military registration and enlistment office. He stood guard and participated in the distribution of subpoenas.
- According to his relatives, he once went to the firing range and shot no more than one store. There was no other preparation, and the family waited for the time for preparation to come later.
- On February 11, Pokitko received an order to advance to the Donbass in a combat unit. He did not refuse, despite the lack of skills, because from the very beginning he was determined to “serve if the country needed it.”
- On February 14, Pokitko called his work colleagues and said that he was in Slovyansk. They are waiting for a new commander and as part of the replenishment they will be enlisted in the 10th mountain assault brigade, where he was perceived as an infantryman ready to carry out tasks on the 1st line. The man considered it unworthy to declare his unpreparedness, he decided to follow all orders without any complaints.
- On February 16, Bogdan Pokitko died in battle.
