At the first stage of voluntary entry into the army from places of detention, according to the new law on mobilization, 4,000 Ukrainian men will join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The head of the Ministry of Justice Denis Malyuska spoke about this.
He pointed out that these Ukrainian volunteers, in exchange for an amnesty, can only join assault battalions, that is, directly participate in battles.

—The motivation of our prisoners is stronger than that of our ordinary soldiers. Release from prison — only part of the motive, they want to protect their country and turn the old page of life, — Malyuska indicated.
He added that the convicts would serve in units composed entirely of former prisoners, under the command of ordinary officers.
Mobilization of prisoners in Ukraine — what is known
On May 8, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 11079-1 on the mobilization of convicted persons.
Recruitment into the Defense Forces will be carried out on a voluntary basis and in return for an amnesty, provided that the remainder of their term in prison does not exceed three years.
The law does not apply to those convicted of especially serious crimes — premeditated murder, terrorism, rape, sexual violence, for crimes against the fundamentals of national security.
Since the law took effect, more than 2,750 prisoners have been released from Ukrainian prisons to protect state sovereignty.
