In Ukraine, since the beginning of the war, about 15,000 people have gone missing/Radio Liberty
Verkhovna Rada Committee recommended to approve amendments to the draft law “On the Legal Status of Missing Persons”.
The bill will help create an effective mechanism for acquiring legal status persons missing under special circumstances and to resolve the issue of their registration, search, as well as social protection of their family members.
Creation of a new institution and registry
The draft law is proposed instead of the Commission on issues of missing persons under special circumstances Establish a new institution-plenipotentiary for missing persons under special circumstances authorities, who is an official of the Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.
Another innovation of the bill is the creation of the Unified Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances on the basis of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
< p class="bloquote cke-markup">Now the unified information system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine includes, in particular, databases for the search for missing persons, so these changes to the law will not require additional funding from the state budget, – says in the message.
Recall, according to the Ombudsman's Office, there are now more than 15 thousand missing people in Ukraine.
