Ukrainian military intelligence has identified the Russian military personnel directly involved in the missile attack on the city of Sumy on June 3, 2025. The shelling resulted in the deaths of six civilians.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported this.
Names of Russian military personnel involved in the shelling of Sumy
According to data received by Ukrainian intelligence units, the aggressor used a BM-21 Grad MLRS battery from the 30th motorized rifle regiment (military unit 72162) for artillery shelling.

The firing positions from which the attack was carried out were located in the area of the settlement of Apanasovka in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
The GUR named specific names of servicemen from the 30th regiment who were directly involved in the attack on Sumy:
- Garnaev Damir Zhafyarovich – lieutenant colonel, holds the position of chief of artillery of the 30th motorized rifle regiment. His registration address: Penza, Stroiteley Avenue, 38, apartment 46.
- Volobuev Dmitry Aleksandrovich – captain, commander of the rocket artillery battery of the 30th motorized rifle regiment. His address: Samara, Zemetsa street, 28, apartment 9.
- At the time of the strike, the commanders of the BM-21 Grad MLRS crews of the artillery battery of the 30th motorized rifle regiment were Sergeant Ivanov A.O. and Private Panchenko S.A.
Missile strike on Sumy: what is known
Let us recall that on June 3, 2025, at about 9:20 am, Russian troops shelled the city of Sumy using BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems.
The shelling resulted in eight direct hits. Six people were killed in the attack. Among the dead was a 17-year-old boy who died in hospital after nearly a week of fighting for his life.
A total of 30 people sought medical assistance after the terrorist attack. Among the wounded were three children, the youngest of whom was only three years old at the time of the shooting.
