Millions of people could be left without power: Russia is preparing a large-scale cyberattack on the UK Yulia Murina

Russia is set to launch a wave of cyber attacks on the UK that could knock out the lights for millions. British Minister Pat McFadden is expected to make a corresponding warning at a NATO conference on Monday.

This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to The Telegraph.

Millions of people in Britain could be left without power due to a Russian attack

According to the publication, McFadden will emphasize that Russia is “extremely aggressive and reckless in cyberspace” and also wants to gain “a strategic advantage and humiliate states that support Ukraine.”

Speaking at a NATO conference on cyber defense in London, the minister will also add that Over the past year, the Russian military and its “unofficial army of cybercriminals and hacktivists have not just stepped up their attacks, they have also broadened their targets to include a range of NATO members and partners.”

Journalists note that in Britain, the aggressor has targeted the media, telecommunications, political and democratic institutions, and energy infrastructure.

Hard military force is one thing. But cyber warfare can be destabilizing and debilitating. Russia can turn off the lights for millions of people with a cyberattack. It can knock out the power grid. This is a “covert war” that Russia is waging against Ukraine, the publication quotes the minister's upcoming speech.

By the way, it is expected that the corresponding warning was made only a few days after Putin threatened to strike Britain in response to Ukraine's use of Storm Shadow.
