In the end, the tank issue has moved forward and our state will receive the necessary weapons, in particular Abrams from the USA and the Republic of Tatarstan -91 Twardy from Poland. The latter is a Polish vehicle based on the Soviet T-72 tank.

However, this is not just a modernized Soviet T-72, since these have their own index – T-72M or T-72M1. Defense Express military expert Ivan Kirichevsky told Channel 24 about this.

What is known about the Polish RT-91 Twardy tanks

< p>While the Polish RT-91 Twardy is indeed based on the design of the Soviet T-72. However, the engine, electronics and thermal imagers are French. In addition, armor in some places is significantly enhanced, unlike the T-72. Even the crew's ergonomics are better than those of Soviet tanks.

It is known that the Poles provided our state with their RT-91 Twardy tanks back in the summer. Now this is an important political gesture to encourage other partners not to delay in providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons.

The military expert noted that although the RT-91 Twardy tanks are from the 90s, they are the newest among all conditionally Soviet tanks that are in Ukraine.

Why Abrams will have to wait longer

At the same time, the American tank M1 Abrams is reputed to be an absolute tank , which in direct combat with the enemy almost does not experience damage. And all because these tanks are equipped with depleted uranium armor blocks. It is not radioactive, but a very dense metal.

Kirichevsky said that the Americans cherish the technology of making armor from depleted uranium as the pupil of the eye. Yes, all countries that have American M1 Abrams in service have a different version. For them, armor blocks made of depleted uranium are replaced with ordinary steel.

According to the military expert, there is another important point. Namely, the fact that the United States has not been producing tanks since 2000. That is, they take tanks for storage, bring them to the General Dynamics plant and process them there. equipment, thermal imagers, armor is being replaced, the running gear is being updated, etc. – said the military expert.

According to him, on paper it may be indicated that the United States has 3,500 tanks in storage, but in fact, vehicles that can be “taken and left” may not exist. Yes, American industry has been able to use them since 2000 to fulfill their contracts.
