Microsoft accused Russian hackers of trying to break into Trump and Biden headquarters

Microsoft has accused hackers from Russia, China and Iran of attempting to hack the campaign headquarters of US President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. RIA Novosti reports.

According to the IT giant, in recent weeks, the company has registered a series of cyberattacks against people associated with the upcoming presidential elections. It is noted that most of the hacking attempts were successfully prevented.

Microsoft representatives in their message highlighted a group of hackers under the code name “Strontium”, which, presumably, operates from Russia. According to the company, the group has carried out attacks on more than 200 different organizations, including political consultants and the headquarters of Trump and Biden. The goal of the hackers at Microsoft is to gather intelligence. The company also believes that the Strontium group was involved in meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.

Earlier it was reported that alleged Russian hackers, ostensibly acting on behalf of the Russian state, attempted to undermine the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. The hack targeted employees of SKDKnickerbocker, a firm that runs strategy and communications for Biden's headquarters, and serves other prominent Democrats.

Russia has been repeatedly accused of interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. American journalists and officials claimed that “Russian hackers” had stolen Democratic correspondence and published it on the Internet, and also tried to infiltrate the electronic counting system.
