< strong _ngcontent-sc200>The President of the European Council responded to Viktor Orban's letter about the “peace tour” in Ukraine. Charles Michel noted in his letter that the presidency of the Council does not give the Hungarian Prime Minister a mandate to act on behalf of the EU.

He also emphasized at Orbán’s “tour” that the European Union’s position on supporting Ukraine was unanimously agreed upon and will remain unshakable for the foreseeable future.

What else did Michel say about Orban’s letter

In his statement, Michel acknowledged the views and proposals of the Hungarian Prime Minister on Ukraine, but emphasized that the EU position regarding our state was agreed consensus and confirmed during the last leaders' summit in June.

He also noted that Hungary, which currently holds a rotating presidency of the EU Council, does not have a mandate to represent the union internationally arena.

In addition, in his letter, European Council President Michel refuted Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán’s assertion that the EU is promoting a “war policy.” Michel emphasized that the reality is completely opposite: Russia acts as an aggressor, and Ukraine is simply defending itself within the limits of its rights.

Michel also noted the importance of involving Ukraine in any discussions on the situation, the situation. After all, no discussion about Ukraine can take place without Ukraine.

“The EU consistently strives to build broad international support for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law in accordance with the key principles and goals of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. The President of the European Council also noted that EU Member States will receive a copy of this letter. Ukraine will also be notified of the correspondence.

Orban predicts “a significant escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine in the near future.” The Hungarian leader advocates negotiations with China to organize a peace summit and calls for the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia.
