German Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the detainees in Belarus demonstrators. This was stated by the official representative of the government of Germany Steffen Seibert, reports Reuters.
The evening of August 13 from the Minsk prison in Akrestsin street, where detainees are taken at meetings of the protesters, began to release people. Citizens have complained EN masse to the terrible conditions of detention, harassment, beatings and threats to commit over them of illegal actions. Some citizens showed traces of blows.
Throughout Belarus there are mass protests. The clashes were detained several thousand people, aware of the hundreds of victims. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of Alexander Lukashenko and the holding of new presidential elections. According to official data, on August 9 elections the incumbent head of state gained more than 80 percent of the vote.
