Xi Jinping agreed on the importance of maintaining ties between countries
Chinese leader Xi Jinping called on the United States “not to plan to suppress or contain China.”
— China has no plans to surpass or displace the United States, and the United States should not plan to suppress or contain China. Both sides should understand each other's principles and essence, not create trouble or cross borders, (but instead) communicate more, have more dialogue and discussion, and take disagreements and accidents calmly, Xi Jinping said.
Chinese state media reported that at the meeting, both leaders “stressed the need for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, maintaining communication and preventing conflict.”
Both countries agreed to resume high-level military communications and cooperate in the fight against drugs, as well as resume meetings between defense ministries and maritime militias.
Xi Jinping called on the US to stop arming Taiwan and support the “peaceful reunification” of China.
The Chinese leader also called the US-China relationship “the most important bilateral relationship in the world.”
According to him, historically, US-China relations “have never been smooth, however, they continue to move forward, despite the twists and turns.”
Xi added that “Planet Earth is big enough for both countries to succeed, and the success of one opens up opportunities for the other.”
“For two large countries like China and the United States, turning their backs on each other is not an option. It is impossible for one side to change the other, and conflict and confrontation have unbearable consequences for both sides, Xi Jinping said.
The last time Biden and Xi Jinping saw each other was on the sidelines of the G20 summit in November 2022, and the Chinese leader has not come to the United States for the last four years, primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic.
