There are mixed statements in Russia about the possibility of exchanging Medvedchuk for the defenders of Mariupol. However, such a development of events will probably not solve the problem of Putin's godfather.
Political scientist Igor Petrenko told Channel 24 about this. In his opinion, even the Kremlin still does not fully understand what will happen to Putin's godfather detained on charges of high treason.

“I think that Medvedchuk himself should really think twice whether he should ask to come to Russia,” he said Igor Petrenko.
Claims against him come directly from Putin and other persons who were actually involved in the scheme to steal money allocated to build the “Russian world” in Ukraine (which could not be built for many reasons).
I think these claims will sound pretty serious there. We know how Russia can crack down on such individuals. Therefore, the exchange is hardly the best for him (channel 24 is an option), the political scientist said.
Medvedchuk can hope for “nepotism”
At the same time, Medvedchuk can still hope for personal connections with Putin. Petrenko suggested that there could be complaints from Putin's closest cordon, saying, “Medvedchuk is ours, but we did nothing to help him.”
“For Ukraine, the main thing is that Medvedchuk should give appropriate demonstrations, reveal the nuances that, perhaps, are not yet known to the investigation of organizing various schemes with coal, oil products,” the expert noted.
He added that the issue is a network of Russian agents in Ukraine, to which Medvedchuk was directly attached.
