Media reported that WizzAir will suspend flights from and to the capital of Moldova: what they say in the company

by alex

The media reported that the Hungarian low-cost carrier WizzAir suspends flights from and to the capital of Moldova. The reason for this decision was “risks in the airspace” over Chisinau.

According to the decision taken, WizzAir will not fly to and from Chisinau from March 14, 2023. The corresponding adjustments in flights were influenced by “recent events in Moldova and a high, but inevitable, risk in the country's airspace,” journalists say, referring to the company's press release, but the document itself is not published.

WizzAir does not want to risk people

In a press release from the air carrier, the link to which has not been published, it is said that the company has been closely monitoring the security situation in Moldova. WizzAir has been in constant contact with various local and international bodies and agencies. He did this in order to “ensure a high level of security and reliability of operations.”

The company allegedly emphasized that the number one priority for it remains the safety of both passengers and crew.

“As a result of the recent events in Moldova and the high, but not direct risk in the country's airspace, WizzAir has taken the difficult but responsible decision to suspend all flights to Chisinau from March 14,” the press release quoted the media as saying.

How did WizzAir react to this?

Twitter user @funnikuler asked the airline: “Is it true that you are suspending flights to Chisinau since March 14?”

WizzAir's official twitter was quick to respond. The company wrote: “Hi! Unfortunately, we don't have any information about this at this time. Please check our website for updates.”

We also checked if it is possible to buy tickets for flights to or from Chisinau after March 14th. As it turned out, such an opportunity is available. We do not rule out that this could be another piece of information to destabilize the situation inside Moldova.

What preceded this situation

  • The airline could indeed make a decision after the Romanian authorities informed Chisinau that they had found “a small unidentified object resembling a balloon.” Then the flights were stopped for more than 3 hours. It happened on February 14th. But for now, we are waiting for confirmation from the air carrier regarding flights to and from Chisinau.
  • It should be noted that the day before, Vladimir Zelensky warned Moldovan President Maia Sandu about the plans of the Russian special services. According to him, the invaders seek to destroy the Republic of Moldova.
  • The head of state herself noted that Moscow really has a plan to undermine the country. It provides for “the involvement of saboteurs with military training, camouflaged in civilian clothes, who will commit violent acts, attacks on some government buildings and hostage taking.”
  • Finally, we note that Sandu said that Ukraine has the right to strike at Transnistria. Thus, our state can prevent an offensive from the territory of Moldova. Its probability has been extremely active in the air in recent weeks. And the Russians themselves, in earnest, played along with the increase in tension.
