Media: More than 50 people are on the missing submarine of the Indonesian Navy
At least 53 people are on board a submarine of the Indonesian Navy, missing near the island of Bali, according to the Daily Star.
The submarine, which participated in the training torpedo launches, reportedly stopped communicating 96 kilometers north of Bali.
Indonesia has requested assistance from Singapore and Australia in the search for the sub.
The submarine KRI Nanggala 402 was built in Germany in 1981, in 2011 the ship was modernized, says RIA Novosti.
On November 15, 2017, the Argentine submarine San Juan disappeared. On board were 44 people, including the first female submariner Eliana Kravchik. During the last communication session, the crew reported an accident on board. Several countries, including Russia, took part in the search for the submarine. The search and rescue operation was terminated 15 days after her disappearance. The ship was found only a year after the tragedy. The object, about 60 meters long, was discovered 500 kilometers offshore at a depth of about 900 meters. According to preliminary data, the submarine was significantly deformed and had traces of an explosion.
