An expert spoke about Russians affected by radiation/Unsplash
Russian troops blindly ignore the radiation safety rules, so as a result of their actions they may already start to die.
Dimitry Bazyka, Director General of the National Scientific Center for Radiation Medicine, spoke about the consequences of staying in the Red Forest for Russian troops, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
From the very beginning of the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops did not comply with radiation safety rules. This applies to the Zaporizhzhya and Chernobyl nuclear power plants, as well as the unique nuclear installation “Source of Neutrons” in Kharkov.
Dimitry Bazyka said that the shelling of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the bombing of the “Source of Neutrons”, fortunately, did not cause significant harm.< /p>
But the situation in the Exclusion Zone, where radioactive isotopes are accumulated, is the worst so far, because military operations actually took place in a 30-kilometer zone,” he noted.
According to him, in the pre-war period, the radiation background in the Exclusion Zone two to three times higher than the norm, but in general it was safe. But “now the orcs have lifted everything, dug up the buried radiation forest – the background, accordingly, has grown significantly.” As a result of the actions of the occupiers, the Automated System for Monitoring the Radiation Situation, which should measure the background radiation, was damaged and does not work. Bazyka is sure that Russians were infected with radiation from the air and food.
Energoatom noted that strontium and an extensive list of radionuclides got into the bodies of the Russian military. They cannot be detected by dosimeters, but they accumulate in bones, cause changes in the blood, nervous system, and gastric tract.
Maybe one of the invaders has already died, we don’t have reliable information, – added Dimitry Bazyka.
