Shelling of Kyiv and attack on the Okhmatdet hospital
On the morning and afternoon of July 8, the Russians attacked Kyiv twice with missiles. As a result of the Russian attack, 25 people are known to have died, as well as more than 70 injured.
The Okhmatdyt children's hospital was damaged during a missile attack on Kyiv. Some medical buildings were destroyed. The head of the Ministry of Health, Viktor Lyashko, said that intensive care units, operating rooms and oncology departments were damaged. He said that the hit was in the toxicology building, where children received dialysis.

Due to the large-scale shelling of the Russian Federation, Ukraine initiates the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. July 9 has been declared a day of mourning in Kiev. Flags on all buildings in the city will be lowered. Any entertainment events are prohibited.

Security agreement between Ukraine and Poland
In Warsaw, President Vladimir Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed an agreement on security cooperation between the countries.
Under this agreement, Warsaw undertakes to continue to support Kyiv for ten years of the document.

Among other things, it also stipulates that Poland will provide Ukraine with several more military aid packages, and will also consider transferring at least one additional MiG-29 squadron (at least 14 fighters) to Ukraine.
The document provides for the possibility of intercepting missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace launched towards Poland.
Orban visited China as part of his “peace” tour
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, after visiting Kyiv and then Moscow, went to Beijing. There he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and called China a “key state” in promoting peace in Ukraine.
Orban flew to the Chinese capital, declaring this visit as “peace mission 3.0”. The head of the Hungarian government called Beijing an “important stabilizing force” in the world at a press conference.
It was noted that Xi highly appreciated Orban’s efforts and called on world powers to support Russia and Ukraine in restoring direct dialogue.
It is already known that President Zelensky denies the possibility for Orban to become a mediator between official Kiev and Moscow. According to the head of state, the war in Ukraine can be stopped not by mediators, but by the consolidated actions of the powerful countries of the world.

Ukrenergo reported that tomorrow, July 9, oblenergos will use two lines of the outage queue from 05:00 to 14:00, from 16:00 to 22:00 — four queues of shutdown schedules, the remaining hours — three turns.
Ukrenergo previously planned to lift restrictions for each region on a specific day within two weeks according to a specific schedule — from July 9 to July 24.

Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2024. At the stage of the 1/8 finals, in 56 minutes in two sets she defeated the representative of China, Xin Yu Wang, with a score of 6:2, 6:1.
