Many dead: what is the situation with the hostages whom the Gaza Strip is holding in terrible conditions

According to preliminary agreements, approximately 40 hostages currently held by Hamas may be released. Currently, 132 hostages are known. In particular, 31 of them are dead. Perhaps there are even more of them.

Among the hostages are young people, elderly people, children, sick people in need of treatment. The editor-in-chief of the portal “Details” (Israel), Emil Shleimovich, told 24 Channel about this.

Negotiations on the return of hostages

Emil Shleimovich noted that it was initially assumed that if the agreement was completed as final, then it should have had three stages. At the first stage, we talked about women, elderly people, people who need urgent treatment.

Then it was said that in the second stage they were going to release the women. Only the third one talked about men, military personnel. Also about the return of the bodies of hostages in exchange for a shipment of prisoners from Israeli prisons and bodies that Israel is holding: the bodies of terrorists or bodies that were taken from hospitals.

Nothing is known yet about the following stages. For now they are talking about at least reaching one stage and using it to get out another batch of hostages.

From the beginning it was talked about more than 230 people, many of whom died. Many were killed by Hamas during the Israeli offensive and were forced to flee. We had evidence that the hostages were alive several hours before we found them dead, shot dead. There are hostages who died as a result of Israeli strikes because their location was not liberated, the editor-in-chief said.

Three hostages were freed by force during this operation. It is about a military girl and two Israelis with a second Argentine citizenship.

• Previously, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated that if the hostages taken by Hamas are not returned before the beginning of the month of Ramadan, then Israel will continue fighting in the Rafah area .
• Israeli military observer David Sharp said that there is no talk yet about the end of the confrontation between Israel and Hamas. Hot spots are observed in two directions – in the Gaza Strip and in northern Israel. Today, Israel is considering the possibility of launching a large-scale operation against Hezbollah, which operates from Lebanon.
• Everyone is waiting to see whether an agreement on the exchange of hostages will be accepted. If so, then this agreement provides for a long ceasefire – at least 40 days.
