Maidan cases: 8 more titushki will be tried for the kidnapping of Igor Lutsenko and Yuriy Verbitsky

Law enforcement officers filed an indictment against 8 titushki in the case of the kidnapping of activists Igor Lutsenko and Yury Verbitsky during the Revolution of Dignity.

And the department noted that the investigation established that this group of titushki, organized by the then authorities, abducted, tortured and intimidated Euromaidan activists.

How the abduction and torture happened

< p> Law enforcement officers during the investigation found that the suspects on the night of January 20-21, 2014 abducted protesters Igor Lutsenko and Yuri Verbitsky from the Alexander Clinical Hospital in Kyiv.

They were severely injured, the activists were tortured and abused. The aunts tied the men, put plastic bags on their heads and took them to the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region. Due to injuries and hypothermia, Yuri Verbitsky died in a field near the road. The investigation also established that these aunts abducted and tortured Vladislav Ivanenko on January 21, 2014.

What punishment awaits the suspects

In respect of these 8 titushki, a special pre-trial investigation was conducted without their presence, since they were hiding from law enforcement officers on the territory of Russia and on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

These titushki are accused of illegal imprisonment or kidnapping, torture and deliberate the murder of a hostage or kidnapped person, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, the creation of a criminal organization, illegal obstruction of the organization or holding of meetings, rallies, campaigns and demonstrations. They face 10 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

Who has already received punishment for the kidnapping of Igor Lutsenko and Yury Verbitsky

  • Total in the case of the kidnapping of Igor Lutsenko and Yury Verbitsky, 19 people have already been prosecuted, including two policemen.
  • On March 10 and 12, 2020, DBR investigators detained two suspects in this case.
  • In August 2021, the court did not extend the preventive measure for Ivan Novotny and Sergei Okhotny, who are accused of kidnapping and torturing activists, they left the pre-trial detention center.
