On September 21, in an address to the Russians, the way threatened the world with nuclear weapons. The Vatican has already reacted to this.
The threats were commented by Pope Francis during his morning speech at the weekly general audience. It is known that this happened in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.
The reaction of the Pope
As noted in the media, during his speech, the pontiff did not called specifically Russia or Putin. However, he made it clear what he was talking about.
This tragic war brings us to the point where some people think about nuclear weapons, this is crazy, said Pope Francis .
Russia's nuclear threats
During the appeal to the Russians, the paths not only announced a partial mobilization of the Russians. Feeling that he was losing the war, he threatened the world with the use of nuclear weapons and did so openly. I didn't forget to mention that Russia now has the largest nuclear arsenal.
To those who allow themselves such statements, I want to remind you that our country has different means of mass destruction, and for individual components even more modern ones. When the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal. This is not a bluff! The citizens of Russia can be sure that the integrity of our fatherland, our independence and freedom will be ensured,” Putin said in his speech.
However, the modernity of nuclear weapons and their arsenal raise some doubts. Thus, although according to the Federation of American Scientists, Russia's nuclear triad consists of about 5,977 warheads, however, 1,500 of them are decommissioned devices.
All this number of nuclear weapons requires maintenance costs, which in Russia it is much less than in the same United States – 8 billion against 37.4 billion dollars, respectively. Although they have about the same number of warheads, the United States has a few fewer warheads.
We should not forget about the corruption in Russia, the consequences of which we are now seeing in the war against Ukraine, and sloppy maintenance.
